About this Research Topic
This Research Topic aims to highlight cutting-edge research and explore research perspectives on developing trustworthy, intelligent, human-centered Extended Reality (XR). This is a type of XR technology where the user does not need to adapt to the system. Rather, the user, the XR environment, and the machine equipped with intelligence work together to form an inseparable whole in which all the components learn from each other in order to evolve and improve. Therefore this topic covers the building of trust between the viewer and the system they are using.
XR is becoming more and more popular in various fields, thanks to the availability of numerous displays and interaction systems available on the market. However, several major issues still remain for a total acceptance of the technology and its massive spread. These issues include lack of interaction intuitiveness and trustworthiness of XR technologies. Even though numerous solutions have been attempted in the literature, most were constructed from a pure computer scientist perspective, regardless of the user and without the context of the use of these technologies. With the recent increase in the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and related technologies, XR has entered a new era, unleashing its full potential and bringing large avenues to finally develop next-generation XR: trustworthy intelligent XR, with strong perspectives in truly human-centered XR.
This Research Topic invites researchers to submit original, high-quality research papers related to trustworthy intelligent XR that combine learning methods of AI or augmented intelligence together with XR to assist humans in any way. Relevant topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Personalized interfaces, interactions, and experiences in XR
- Intelligent human-centered digital twins
- Augmented intelligence and XR
- Improving human learning, intelligence, and performance with intelligent XR
- Trustworthy virtual avatars
- Applications of intelligent XR
- Certifiability of XR-based learning and XR-based intelligent systems
New Submission deadlines
13th March 2022 Abstract
15th May 2022 Full Paper
Keywords:
Personalized interaction, AI in XR, safe XR, human-centered digital twin
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
